To all who supported me or gave me words of encouragement during the controversy of the past two weeks, you have my gratitude and respect.
You will by now have seen the statement by Director of National Intelligence Dennis Blair reporting that I have withdrawn my previous acceptance of his invitation to chair the National Intelligence Council.
I have concluded that the barrage of libelous distortions of my record would not cease upon my entry into office. The effort to smear me and to destroy my credibility would instead continue. I do not believe the National Intelligence Council could function effectively while its chair was under constant attack by unscrupulous people with a passionate attachment to the views of a political faction in a foreign country. I agreed to chair the NIC to strengthen it and protect it against politicization, not to introduce it to efforts by a special interest group to assert control over it through a protracted political campaign.
My father Michael very nicely linked my article “A Short Discussion on Israel and Palestine” on his blog. Thanks dad!
By Your’s Truly with the Very Much Needed Help of Florence Thireau – Original Article Can be Read Here Many say they skip demonstrations out of opposition to organizers BEIRUT: Protests continued in Lebanon and around the world this week, calling for an end to Israeli hostilities and global action to stop what the UN [...]
I had my first “Ah-Ha” moment as a journalist today. It helped me in many ways define what it is that a “Journalist” is supposed to be. First the moment itself – I was writing an article this afternoon on a seminar regarding the current Gaza conflict and the 2 year old Gaza seige. I [...]
I know this is a story that is about 48 hours late, but I’m saddened at how quickly its left the airways, so I’m publishing it anyways. The story amazes me. A Texan woman, campaigning for McCain in Pittsburgh, went to the police late last week, claiming that while being mugged by a 6’4” black [...]
If every American could watch this video, this would be a very different country. A very different country indeed. Thank you Dr. Brzezinski for talking some bloody sense into those idiots on the television. Why can’t we vote for HIM for President? If you cannot see the video, (like if you’re receiving this in an [...]
In this little clip, morons (the kind that REALLY give conservatives a bad name) give away bumper-stickers with the words “Obama for Change.” The “C” in change is an Islamic Crescent. The “g” in Change is a Soviet Hammer and Sickle. Fun. Ok, I get the socialist thing. Obviously Obama’s plan to tax richer people [...]
“In this economy, racism is officially a luxury. How is John McCain going to win if he can’t win those voters? – FiveThirtyEight.com has an amazing story out of Western Pennsylvania. A polster, traveling block by block attempting to learn more about working-class America’s election leanings reports: “A canvasser goes to a woman’s door in [...]
David Talbot reports on this wonderful little story about a certain Vice Presidential candidate and a certain candidate’s husband who belonged for quite some time to a rabidly anti-American secessionist party in a certain backwater state known as Alaska. The Alaskan Independence Party’s famous founder, who apparently was killed in a plastic-explosive incident, stated that: [...]
If you are planning on voting this November, and you suspect that you will be voting with an electronic voting machine, you must download and read this report on their vulnerabilities. It’s 86 pages long, so if youd like an overview, read this is from the Ohio Secretary of State’s Office: STUDY: VOTING SYSTEMS VULNERABLE [...]
Update: Also read “Part 2 of the American Diaspora – Economic Consequences of the Bailout” which is currently a top-ranked article on Google for the keywords “American Diaspora”! I can’t believe I wrote this in early October… guess I had a little foresight, eh? People ask me why I’m leaving the country – why I’m [...]
I think that this entire thing could have been avoided if the McCain campaign had resisted attacking Barack Obama for his ties to former Fannie Mae executives, which prompted the media to take a second look at Rick Davis. Now that the news is out, I can’t imagine this won’t be another nail in the [...]
Woa – You know things are bad when the Journal’s saying stuff like this: Last week, Republican presidential candidate John McCain called for a commission to “find out what went wrong” on Wall Street. It was an excellent suggestion: Public inquiries into Wall Street practices served the country well in the 1930s. And Mr. McCain [...]
Ron Paul weighed in on the Bush Administration’s planned financial bailout on CNN’s “Late Edition” today: WOLF BLITZER (“Late Edition” host): What do you say to the president who wants you and your fellow Republicans and Democrats to quickly pass this $700 billion bailout package? PAUL: Well, I think that’s a mistake because we don’t [...]
This is a must-see. Actually it’s pretty funny, and would be funnier if it wasn’t so very very very sad. Obviously everyone flip-flops and everyone waffles and everyone changes their mind, but the problem really is that ever since they were so successful with their ‘Kerry’s “57 Varieties” shpeil’, they’ve really gone out of [...]
