I am still alive… so how about a diatribe?!

I swear it! Things are moving along – So since you know that I am still alive, allow me instead to switch topics.

I am going to post a long email I wrote to Ned recently. Some back story (from Ned):

An Ithaca alum went to Palestine last summer and wrote a piece about her work with the palestinian civilians who are affected by the war. She wrote an editorial supporting the civilians who usually get lumped together with Hamas and blamed for the conflict.

Agent Lathan gave out 2,000 high fives by standing next to a subway escalator during the morning rush. Five additional agents spread out along the adjacent stairs, holding signs that prepared commuters for the upcoming high five fun. All is well here in Beirut…

Hello all – Just wanted to provide an update. It’s been a little while -

Life continues to proceed a normal pace in Beirut… I can’t say theres much excitement but these days no news is good news. Work at Dia Diwan and the Daily Star are both good – It’s nice to settle into a steady cycle of work and relaxing.

Other than that, not too much to report. There seems to be plenty of things to do – I visited Tripoli late last week, which the first time in three months I’d gotten out of Beirut (not counting my short trip to Amman)

Under a program called Project Match, IBM will help workers laid off from domestic sites obtain travel and visa assistance for countries in which Big Blue has openings. Mostly that’s developing markets like India, China, and Brazil.

The climate is warm, there’s no shortage of exotic food, and the cost of living is rock bottom. That’s IBM’s pitch to the laid-off American workers it’s offering to place in India. The catch: Wages in the country are pennies-on-the-dollar compared to U.S. salaries.
