Update…!
For those of you who are unaware as to why I haven’t published anything recently, it’s because I am waiting to hear about a number of things, namely, and most importantly, the legal status of The Daily Star, the paper I work for. There has been an injunction filed against it due to a credit issue and the paper is not currently publishing. I have spent the past few days therefore pursuing a number of other professional opportunities in case the paper doesn’t pull through, although by all accounts the word is that things will be fine.
What are those other opportunities? Well it’s a long list and I don’t want to count chickens before they are hatched… but I will hopefully have some news before too long.
As for yesterday… well – Congratulations to President Obama. He said two things that stuck out in my mind. First, that “On this day, we gather because we have chosen hope over fear, unity of purpose over conflict and discord.” I couldn’t agree more. I have been waiting for the President of the United States to say this for eight years. The second:
This is the meaning of our liberty and our creed – why men and women and children of every race and every faith can join in celebration across this magnificent mall, and why a man whose father less than sixty years ago might not have been served at a local restaurant can now stand before you to take a most sacred oath.
In my mind, this was the most powerful statement of his speech, and one of the only that dealt – and I’m not sure he could have said any more subtly or perfectly. To those involved in the movement in the sixties and seventies, I cannot imagine what you must feel.
So – to wrap up, here’s a picture of me that I’m rather fond of. All my love to everyone back home!
